About the Event

Join the research team, Community Advisory Board members, community partners, policymakers, researchers, and legacy cannabis stakeholders for a public dissemination event for Legacy Cannabis Genetics: People and Their Plants, a Community-Driven Study — a groundbreaking community-based participatory research (CBPR) initiative focused on documenting, preserving, and protecting California's legacy cannabis genetics and the communities that steward them.

This event will highlight emerging research findings, community perspectives, and policy recommendations developed through the project's collaborative research process. Rooted in CBPR methodology, the project emphasizes two-way dialogue, community participation, and actionable outcomes that support the long-term preservation of California cannabis genetics, culture, and cultivation communities.

Programming for the event is being developed in collaboration with the project's Community Advisory Board and will focus heavily on research-based policy recommendations to support the preservation and sustained diversity of California cannabis genetics and the cultivation communities connected to them.

This project has already generated interest from researchers and policymakers within and beyond California, reflecting the precedent-setting nature of this work and its broader implications for agricultural policy, cultural preservation, and community-driven research models. We hope you will join us for this important conversation about the future of California's legacy cannabis communities and the role research, policy, and community collaboration can play in protecting them for generations to come.

About the LCG Community Advisory Board

A central component of the Legacy Cannabis Genetics: People and Their Plants research project is the establishment of a 13-member Community Advisory Board (C.A.B.), created to help guide and collaborate with the research team throughout the project's Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) process. The C.A.B. includes representatives from rural, urban, and BIPOC cannabis communities with deep knowledge and lived experience related to California's legacy cannabis genetics and cultivation history.

The C.A.B. has been collaborating with project personnel to help shape the CBPR model; advise on participant recruitment; review project materials; contribute to evaluation, analysis, and the development of findings; support the development of public policy recommendations; and help shape the project's dissemination plan. The criteria and selection process for the C.A.B. were themselves developed through a series of focus group meetings with community members from the project's study regions, helping to ensure that the advisory structure reflects the values, priorities, and diversity of the communities this research is intended to serve.

The Legacy Cannabis Genetics Community Advisory Board includes the following members:
