It’s a great time for civic engagement and your opinion both matters and makes a difference. There are a number of pieces of cannabis legislation in Sacramento that we think you should know about. We hope you will take the time to read the below and, if you support the bill, to send in a letter of support to your local and state representatives.
Senate Bill 67 (click here) reflects the URGENT need for state agencies to address the backlog in licensing, and provides further reporting requirements of these agencies. SB67 made it through the Business and Professions Committee with an 8-0 vote, and has now been referred to the Senate Appropriations Committee. The next hearing date for this bill has not been scheduled but we will update with that information when available.
Letter of Support for California Senate Bill 67
The Honorable ___________
Re: Support for SB 67
Dear (Supervisor/Senator/Assemblyman) _____________:
As a voter in your district/ a cannabis licensee/ farmer seeking a permit, and a member of The Nevada County Cannabis Alliance. I am asking you to support California Senate Bill 67, an act to amend Section 26050.2 of, and to add Section 26050.3 to, the Business and Professions Code, relating to cannabis, and declaring the urgency thereof, to take effect immediately.
This bill would grant the CDFA, DPH, and BCC authority to extend a temporary license through December 31, 2019, while processing annual license applications, if the licensees submitted their annual application prior to their temporary licenses’ expiration date. Here in Nevada County, there are over 100 small farmers who have temporary licenses that will expire unless there is an immediate solution. The potential for this lapse in licenses will create a negative economic ripple effect for our small farmers as they will not be able to enter the regulated market for the summer of 2019.
The ability to maintain active licensure is of the utmost importance for a successful local and state-wide cannabis industry to thrive and SB 67 would provide a necessary and immediate solution to the state’s cannabis licensing timeline. I strongly urge you to support SB 67.
