Nevada City Measure F

(Local Cannabis Taxes)

Alliance Statement

Measure F is a ballot question for the June 5 election that asks Nevada City voters whether to tax cannabis businesses, and setting forth taxation rates.

A YES vote is a vote in favor of taxing commercial marijuana businesses at rates of $7 per canopy square foot for cultivation, 8 percent of gross receipts for retail marijuana businesses, and 6 percent for all other marijuana businesses, with funding used for general city purposes.

A NO vote is a vote against taxing commercial marijuana businesses at rates of $7 per canopy square foot for cultivation, 8 percent of gross receipts for retail marijuana businesses, and 6 percent for all other marijuana businesses, with funding used for general city purposes.

The Nevada County Cannabis Alliance worked with Nevada City officials as they crafted language for the cannabis tax measure (Measure F). After thorough examination of taxation trends for cannabis businesses statewide, The Alliance believes the Nevada City rates are fair and reasonable compared to tax rates in other jurisdictions. The rates being presented on the ballot are the maximum percentages. The city will begin taxation at much lower rates — 4 percent for retail and 2 percent for all other cannabis businesses, such as manufacturers and distribution companies — making them some of the lower tax rates in the state. It is important that we strike a balance between providing a realistic pathway for our local cannabis businesses to succeed while still ensuring that the city receives the necessary tax revenue to better provide services and improve infrastructure. We appreciate city officials efforts to consider our recommendations and take the concerns of the industry into consideration, ensuring the long term success of the local industry

Please vote YES on Measure F!
